Koukla was designed to create a warm, Mediterranean-inspired atmosphere.
This can be seen in the materials used throughout the space, including white washed wood, white painted concrete, terrazo, copper and distressed white painted brick. There are also nods to classical Greek culture throughout, such as custom leather wine holders inspired by the ancient gladiator sandal that hang along the back bar and custom banquettes made from formed concrete inspired by classic Greek architecture.
In a nod to the nautical culture of Greece, the south wall features a 30’ rope installation. It is one more example of the focus on hand-made elements, highlighting thee craftsmanship and history of Greek culture, that was essential to the design of the space.
These elements create a space that is beautiful and captivating—perfectly fitting for a restaurant named Koukla, a Greek word used to compliment a woman on her appearance.
