With a classically French trained chef and Chinese background, the design is inspired by chinoiserie, Chinese influences mixed with French elegance. The College Street restaurant features a range of custom built décor that reflect an eclectic mix of influences, including gold painted koi fish that take on a floating look on the floor, Asian brass partition screens and hand painted murals. In the main bar, custom details include imported Chinese tile and an atrium style skylight with custom chandelier suspended from the apex, reminiscent of a Chinese lantern.
Lo Pan, the upstairs bar, puts an extra playful spin on the spot’s Chinatown influences, with a large grouping of bird cages suspended from the ceiling, several neon signs and wallpaper created from fortune cookies. A floating lighting installation features Dumpling and fortune cookiesque sculptural cantilevered lighting suspended from the ceiling.
